History
IJN Kirishima was the fourth Kongo-class battlecruiser, built at Mitsubishi Nagasaki Shipyard. On November 15, 1942, she engaged USS South Dakota and USS Washington in one of only two battleship-on-battleship actions of the Pacific War (the other being Surigao Strait in 1944). Washington hit Kirishima with at least nine 16-inch shells within minutes, causing fatal damage. She capsized and sank off Savo Island early on November 15.
