兵庫縣加西市的鶉野飛行場，把飛行訓練與飛機生產這兩種戰時活動連結在一起。飛行場於1942年12月動工，姬路海軍航空隊於1943年10月1日在此開隊，使用九七式艦上攻擊機等機種進行訓練。跑道全長1,200公尺、寬60公尺。飛行場西南側設有川西航空機的組裝工廠，生產局地戰鬥機「紫電」與「紫電改」，其中紫電486架、紫電改44架，並利用這條跑道進行試飛。

1945年，航空隊編成了神風特別攻擊隊「白鷺隊」；隊員經由九州的基地出擊，參加沖繩周邊的作戰，共有63人陣亡。同年3月31日，一架試飛中的紫電改因引擎故障而迫降在飛行場旁的北條線鐵道上，造成行駛中的列車出軌翻覆，釀成11人死亡、104人受傷的事故。

混凝土鋪設的跑道留存至今，防空壕與機槍陣地等則散布在更廣的範圍之內。這些遺構應該被理解為一座曾經實際運作的飛行場的各個部分，而不是單獨一棟保存下來的建築。跑道用地於2016年6月由國家移交加西市，現在由市方管理，並透過「鶉野田野博物館」（鶉野フィールドミュージアム）的構想，解說周邊的各處遺構。

2022年4月18日開館的地域活性化據點設施「soraかさい」，位於舊跑道旁，是參觀的起點。館內展示的紫電改與九七式艦上攻擊機都是實物大小的模型，必須與戶外的原有構造物區別看待。訪客可以在參觀展示之後，步行走訪各處遺構；利用大型防空壕改設的影像劇場，則有它自己的開放時程。本條目的地圖位置，代表的是這座訪客設施與跑道的周邊，而不是戰時基地的完整範圍，也不是組裝工廠的廠址。
